The wireless port on my Brother HL-2170W has been working fine for two months, suddenly it stopped working. I tried re-setting it and then re-loading the drivers, but after loading them, the install wizard can’t find the printer. All firewalls are Off. Is the port dead?
The wireless port on my Brother HL-2170W has suddenly stopped working. I’ve tried resetting and then reloading the drivers, but have had no success. What now?
You will need to reset the printer’s network print server back to its factory defaults. Do the following:
1. Turn off the printer
2. Make sure the front cover is closed and the power cord plugged in.
3. Hold the “GO” as you turn on the power switch. Keep the GO button pressed down until the Toner,Drum,Error LEDS light up. Release the GO button. Make sure that the Toner,Drum, and paperLEDS are off.
4. Press the GO button seven times. Make sure that all the LEDS light up to indicate the print server has been reset to factory defaults.
5. Setup the IP address.
If this is not successful we suggest you contact the Brother support team for additional assistance. It is possible that the wireless port is defective. If your printer is still under warranty Brother might just send you a replacement printer.

If properly stored, OEM and remanufactured ink cartridges should still be good 12-24 months or more after purchase, while most compatibles should last 24-36 months. Keep them in their sealed packet, in the box, out of the sun and in a drawer in a room with a steady temperature.
Never run the printer when the ink cartridge is dry, this causes unnecessary wear and might make it unsuitable for recycling. Better to change the ink cartridge before it runs completely dry and ‘waste’ a tiny bit of ink.

The printhead is the chip that operates the printing action. The printhead may be integrated into the inkjet printer or it may be part of the ink cartridge. This isn’t usually noted on the box. If the printhead is on the printer, the ink cartridge is actually little more than a tank. If a printer-mounted printhead fails, you may find an Overstock.com replacement printer cheaper than paying a technician to do major surgery on your printer.
A color inkjet printer uses just four colored inks to produce its 26,000,000,000 colors–black, magenta (light red), yellow and cyan (light blue). Color inkjet cartridges may consist of 4 tanks, one for each color. A tri color ink cartridge contains only three colors. Some combine the colors to create black (not a very good black, say some people), while others are paired with a separate black ink cartridge. This is especially useful for those who print lots of text but not many pictures. Some inkjets have an individual cartridge or tank for each color. Higher end printers use additional colors (up to eight) and special inks to create film-quality photographic outputs.

Printer ink cartridges come in three main types: Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), compatible and remanufactured. Although OEM cartridges are available for every type of printer model, compatible and remanufactured are not.
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) ink cartridges are made by the same companies that make printers (Canon, Dell, Epson, HP, Lexmark, etc). These are typically the most expensive cartridges you can purchase, but also the most popular. The OEM’s spend a lot of money to convince consuers that their products are the most reliable and the highest quality.
Compatible ink cartridges, like OEMs, are newly manufactured, but done so by companies other than the OEM. These cartridges are most easily described as ‘generic’. It is just as good as the OEM cartridge, even built to OEM specifications. Because they don’t carry the name brand they are not as expensive as OEM cartridges. When you think about buying a printer, be aware that compatible cartridges may not be available for all printer models. This is often due to patented cartridge designs.
Remanufactured ink cartridges have been presiously used. They are most easily described as reconditioned or recycled. Empty cartridges are taken to a processor. The Processor opens the ink cartridge, cleans it, tests it, refills it, and then tests it again. The ink used in a remanufactured cartridge meets OEM ink specifications.
